The loneliness of the long distance granny (Tales from the Folly)

Touches a very real sore spot, doesn't it? I still grew up in a 'several-generation-house' (excuse my germanism, is there an English word for that?), but I'm well aware that this is not where I'll spend my senior years...
... as am I aware of the stress of caring for sick/disabled members of the family, and the lack of housing for young people/families and... *sigh*

AB's solution is exellent, of course, and that little plot twist at the end... very, very interesting!

Night Witch (graphic)

Heh, that was fun! Once I grew out of comics I never got the fascination of graphic novels. I still think it would not work for me without the background worldbuilding and characterisation of the novels, but I enjoyed the... comic? booklet? graphic novella?

Some really nice scenes ;)

- Beverly gaining a acolyte (that whole thing makes me ever more wary of her)
- Molly the brave!
- Lesley in a HUUUGE central London flat, she's getting Money from somewhere even before the reveal
- Peter and Walid nerding out togheter is GOLD
- as is Peter having his own mug in places where he spends a lot of time ;)
- is Nightingale wearing a WW2 Paratrooper's uniform for his jaunt in the woods with Toby?
- Cold War covert communication codes... why exactly does Nightingale need to know them? What's he been up to?
- 'Anybody's family would do.' 💔

Not happy about: graphic!Nightingale does not look like my Kopfkino Nightingale. And helloOoh, needs grey eyes!

Favourite Uncle (Tales from the Folly)

Short story narrated by Abigail, features her thoughts and insights into her character. She's getting payed by a former classmate to find out where that odd uncle that shows up every christmas comes from.

She uses the Folly's resources for research and in one of the library books, one she thinks is usually good for a laugh, finds

'He says that there are reports that some men, ‘Have extended their existence by accident rather than design. These unfortunates, for such I judge them to be, show little understanding of their plight and when questioned seem strangely insensate of the peculiarity of their circumstances.'

For some reason she doesn't waste a thought on that but thinks of Peter not knowing about her knowing about the jazz vampires and moves on.

The odd uncle, who does turn out to be a member of the demi-monde, says something interesting:

'‘They talk about you,’ he says. ‘The Parliament of Foxes gossip about nothing else,’ he says. ‘And on the edges of the horse fairs and carnivals from Appleby to Goldsithney they pass your name from hand to hand in the hope of guessing the future.’'

Now the Parliament of Foxes and their gossipping ways feature in other books, and carnivals are closely interwoven with demi-monde affairs as mentioned from the beginning in Rivers of London, made very clear in Foxglove Summer, but I don't think horse fairs have been mentioned before... they make me think of farriers... who are blacksmiths, when you get down to it...

Black Mould next! *pokes with a... well, Peter is fascinated by pickaxe handles, I'll go find one somewhere*
